Audition Due Date: March 29, 2020
Actor Onboarding: By April 7, 2020
Season 3 Table Reading Begins: Mid-late April 2020
AUDITION INFORMATION
Mic Requirements (if outside of the DC metro area): 16-bit/44.1kHz that can be exported to WAV and MP3 (Yeti mic, H2n recorders, etc)
Instructions: Please send no more than 5-minute recording of multiple takes of the sides provided for any character. You may audition for up to 2 characters. You may also send a 5-minute recording of other voice acting experiences. Please send all auditions and a short description (or resume) of yourself and your experience to kalilastormfire@gmail.com and all audio should be in MP3 format.
Accessibility: If you require additional support, including Deaf or Blind accessibility to the sides/directing assistance, please feel free to reach out. I also encourage soft recording due-dates to help with anyone who needs that level of flexibility based on income, working hours, and other mitigating circumstances. I have been and am able to do last-minute rewrites to accommodate emergencies and self-care required on behalf of the actor.
Representation: People of color, trans people, and people from other marginalized groups are particularly encouraged to audition. Depending on discussions with a selected actor regarding pronouns, pronouns are open to change. The Stormfire Productions team commits to confronting gendered/xenophobic/ableist bias on the basis of voice pitch, accent, or other vocal tone. Your voice deserves to be heard and listened to.
CHARACTERS WITH SET IDENTITIES WILL ONLY BE CAST WITH MATCHING IDENTITIES.
Anyone who is cast will also be encouraged to be an active part of the character-development process. While this show is also subject to sensitivity reading prior to sharing scripts with the actors, actors who also contribute to sensitivity work/consulting with the character will be compensated accordingly.
Anyone who is cast will also be encouraged to contribute voices for side characters and walla.
CHARACTER BIOS + SIDES
Note: Client roles will require more time and are paid accordingly, as they are featured in more than half of their given episode. Actors who are cast may be asked to play any of the secondary characters listed below as well, so I recommend auditioning for more than one character.
[CLIENTS]
Charlie Muta
Pronouns: Any
Age range: Any
Ethnicity: Any
Character Notes: A very earnest young person who is having trouble balancing ambitions.
Audition Note: Please include in your audition up to 30-60 seconds of singing any piece. Sheet reading ability is not required.
Side: It felt...it felt...powerful. Like I had captured the entire room’s attention. I didn’t think I’d be able to do that ever again. It’s like the spotlight is on me, and everyone is riveted to the art I’m making, what’s coming out of my mouth. People come up to me afterwards with stars in their eyes, it’s such an amazing experience.
Josephina Perez
Pronouns: She/her
Age range: 20s
Ethnicity: Latinx, Cuban preferred
Character Notes: Her character was initially mentioned in the second episode Case Two: Water. She conveys an underlying current of energy and power, but has gotten much wiser through experience.
Side: I’m serious. It’s hard out here to get people to understand that sometimes you need a more forceful hand. Some loving, firm guidance. Like with these pottery pieces, you got it. Not a lot of people get it. But you do, or you try.
Hassan Rootworker
Pronouns: He/him
Age range: 25+
Ethnicity: Black
Character Notes: He is the epitome of a healer. He cares deeply about people and is a social worker in his day job.
Side: I showed up for the first day just this last week, and I felt--I don’t know. Like I was where I was supposed to be. It felt right. And yet, I’m also already doing work that feels right? I don’t know. I don’t know how to reconcile the two. I was hoping I could get a channeling session or tarot reading or something from you to get a clearer idea of what path I’m meant to take.
[SECONDARY CHARACTERS]
Kai
Pronouns: Any
Age range: Any
Ethnicity: Any
Character Notes: High Priestess Gabrielle Ravenwood’s assistant. A diligent worker who wants to get on the HP’s good side.
Side: I understand. I do. After Ka (sees Gabrielle’s anger) --um, after everything that some ex-initiates have done to the reputation of the coven, it’s definitely important for you--and-and the Elder Circle to be careful about who they initiate. I-I was just wondering what else I need to do to show that I’m ready.
Michael
Pronouns: He/him
Age range: 30+
Ethnicity: Any
Character Notes: Michael is the Grand Coven’s lead Dragon -- meaning he basically runs security. He is competent in what he does.
Side: Yes, of course. The wards aren’t what I’m worried about though. I’ve had a few junior Dragons get into some issues in their personal life. I think the activation of the hex is provoking the three-fold law. I decided to prioritize the hold of the greater wards...I cleared it with the Elder Circle months ago. I took care to train David and Theo about the risks.
Pamela
Pronouns: She/her
Age range: Any
Ethnicity: Any
Character Notes: She is part of the Elder Circle and works in finance.
Side: Mercury retrograde was rough this year, but it was a good idea to push our membership drive to later in the year to account for the dip. We are in a good position to start the west wing expansion by the next quarter.
Juan Francisco Toledo-Lopez
Pronouns: He/him (can change)
Age range: 25+
Ethnicity: Latinx
Character Notes: He is a trained lawyer, most familiar with immigration issues.
Side: I’ll start, I guess. Hello, I’m Juan Francisco Toledo-Lopez. I’m working with Janelle at the De Justicia offices. We do a lot of legal support for immigrants, so Janelle thought we could help build similar legal arguments for changelings. I really want to get first-hand understanding of the struggles changelings and people in the Liminal are facing.
Farah Muhammad
Pronouns: She/her
Age range: 30-50 years
Ethnicity: Black, East African (Ethiopian, Somali, Kenyan, etc) heritage preferred.
Character Notes: She is the mother mentioned in Case Three: Music. She is very honest with herself and others.
Side: I often felt excluded. What worked for me, though, was being a healer. Being in health, people see you as someone who can help rather than hurt. But I also believe I can never simply be trusted for who I am, rather than what I can do.
Storyteller
Pronouns: Any
Age range: Any
Ethnicity: Any
Character Notes: Must have EXCELLENT vocal gravitas.
Side: Oh, yes, there is a war brewing. As a particular goddess knows all too well, love and war often go hand in hand. Because, you see, this metaphor is not really a metaphor. It’s a mirror. A mirror into your world and your shadows. So take care as you listen. There’s so much more you still don’t know.
